Fine lines are a natural part of life. They show up where we smile, squint and laugh. Still, the right habits can keep skin smoother, plumper and more even for longer. Here are the seven that make the biggest difference, in order of impact.
1. Wear sunscreen every single day
If you only do one thing, make it this. UV exposure is the biggest cause of premature lines, sagging and dark spots, and it reaches your skin on cloudy days and through windows too. Use SPF 30 or higher every morning, and reapply if you're outdoors.
Try: Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturizing Sunscreen. It's hydrating, light and leaves no white cast, so you'll actually want to wear it.
2. Keep skin deeply hydrated
Dehydrated skin makes fine lines look deeper. Plumped-up skin makes them look softer almost instantly. Layer a hydrating essence under your moisturizer.
Try: MISSHA Time Revolution The First Essence, a fermented essence for smoother, bouncier-looking skin, or I'm From Honey Serum for glow and nourishment.
3. Add vitamin C in the morning
Vitamin C is an antioxidant. It helps defend skin against daily environmental stress, brightens dullness and supports firmer-looking skin over time.
Try: COSRX The Vitamin C 23 Serum if your skin isn't sensitive. It's potent, so start every other morning. For something gentler, try SOME BY MI Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C Glow Serum.
4. Give your eyes their own care
The skin around your eyes is thinner and often shows lines first. A dedicated eye cream adds hydration where your face cream might be too heavy.
Try: COSRX Advanced Snail Peptide Eye Cream, with peptides, snail mucin and niacinamide. Tap it on gently with your ring finger.
5. Seal it all in with a firming moisturizer
A good cream locks in your hydrating layers and supports your skin barrier overnight.
Try: Medicube PDRN Pink Collagen Capsule Cream for bounce, or Round Lab Dokdo Cream if you prefer something lighter.
6. Ask a dermatologist about retinoids
Retinoids (vitamin A) have some of the strongest evidence for softening fine lines. They can be irritating, so introduce them slowly, use them at night, and never skip sunscreen. A dermatologist can help you choose the right strength for your skin.
7. Look after the basics
- Sleep. Skin does much of its repair overnight.
- Don't smoke. Smoking breaks down collagen and is one of the biggest causes of early wrinkles.
- Be gentle. Harsh scrubs and hot water weaken your skin barrier. Use a low-pH cleanser and lukewarm water.
- Eat well. A diet rich in fruit, vegetables and healthy fats supports healthy skin.
